Product Specification

EN 350 ranks a species’ natural resistance to decay on a five-class scale, Class 1 (very durable, 25+ years in ground contact) down to Class 5 (not durable). Several of our species carry established trade names and ratings in this system, which we’ll state plainly rather than let you guess from a species name alone.

Common Species Trade Name EN 350 Class Typical Use
Azobé
Ekki (Bongossi)

For comparison, Ayous (traded as Obeche) rates only Class 4, slightly durable, which is exactly why we position it as an interior species elsewhere in the catalogue rather than for outdoor use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which species lasts longest outdoors without treatment?

Azobé (traded as Ekki) rates EN 350 Class 1, the highest natural durability rating, and is our default recommendation for ground-contact or marine use. Iroko and Tali are close behind and considerably lighter to work with, a reasonable trade-off for most decking and cladding projects.

Can you supply pre-profiled decking boards?

Yes, grooved or smooth-face profiles are available on request. Tell us the board width and profile you need and we’ll confirm species availability and lead time.

Do you treat the wood, or is it natural durability only?

By default, natural durability only, the species listed here don’t need chemical treatment to perform outdoors. If your project specifically requires treated timber, tell us and we’ll confirm whether that’s something we can arrange.
